The Cannery
The Cannery depicts the conflict that inevitably ensues when a once-dominant culture loses its foothold and becomes marginalized, as seen through the relationship of impoverished Irish-Italian half-sisters who have stayed together all their lives in a tiny South Chelsea flat, and whose rigid bond is tested and stretched to the breaking point, and then refashioned out of the resulting shards. In the struggle for control over their lives, the two sisters hasten the demise of their shrunken world.
